The recent side saddle clinic proved popular and successful. Dale Atkinson was both knowlegeable and encouraging and was able to find a saddle to fit all 6 horses forward on the day. Dale gave us the basics of how to sit, balance, and ride forward (as well as explaining you really should have a gentleman to catch you when you dismount) and everyone was impressed by how well the horses went once the riders realised it is possible to use back and seatbones instead of two legs. Several people are keen to pursue this elegant way to ride but, in case you think this is just for the girls, Dale pointed out that in days gone by it was the (male) grooms who schooled the horses so the ladies could be suitably impressive when they rode. And to prove modern man is up to the challenge, after seeing how well Kurt went for mum Fiona, Joshua couldn't resist having a go! The results were exciting to say the least - if you want more info contact Josh!! It is likely that we will be booking Dale again so keep an eye on the website for details. |

Although entries were lower than last year, our members enjoyed a good day on Sunday, taking all three classes at our Combined Training Event. Class 1: 1st Lashara Clements (HPM), Lady. 2nd Rebecca Miles (M), Badger. 3rd Steve Dance (M), Tyler. 4th Kelly Johnson, Urbane Hero. 5th Anna Marshall-Brown, Busby. 6th Lizzie Wooderson (M), Rosario. Class 2: 1st Rachel Christie (HPM), James. 2nd Elizabeth Higbey, Beau. 3rd Louise Hepburn (M), Banadl Hippo. 4th Steve Dance (M) Jack the Lad Class 3: 1st Charlotte Cooper (HPM), Paddy. 2nd Anne Palmer (M), Outburst. 3rd Steve Dance (M), Jack the Lad, 4th Eleanor Robin (M), Millboy. It was also good to see Maria Carter's Raffles back in action after his long lay off. Although he wasn't too keen on the coulured fillers at the first attempt he scooted round later! Many thanks to Sue Allen for the use of her arena and to Dawn Freeman for allowing us to warm up next door at Manor Farm. Thanks too to Carolyn Davis our judge, Chris Johnson our writer, and all the competitors and their friends who helped us to move the jumps when needed. |
